Did you know?
Apparently the term "scientist" was coined in 1834 because people needed a short word for someone who studies the natural world, by analogy with "artist."
I'm a Masters student in Geology at University of Western Ontario, Canada working with Dr. Gordon Osinski. I study impact cratering processes in and around Permanently Shadowed Regions of the Lunar South Polar Region, with a
focus on volatile distribution and landing site assessment.

Wander →Hi, I'm Rama.
Born in Palakkad and raised in Chennai, India, I moved to Coimbatore for my MSc in Physics at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. There, I found myself drawn to research and wanted to apply my computational skills in a more focused domain which led me to Ahmedabad, India for a PG Diploma in Space and Atmospheric Science at the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).
A course during my diploma sparked a lasting interest in the Moon's permanently shadowed regions (PSRs), which are prime targets for future lunar missions seeking water ice. My time at PRL deepened this interest further, as I learned how impact cratering could both disturbs subsurface ice and helps preserve it through ejected/ thrown out material. Since then, my research has centered on impact cratering processes and volatile distribution within the PSRs in the Moon's south polar region.
I'm pursuing M.Sc in Geology at University of Western Ontario.

Where the light doesn't reach, the questions begin.
Crater Mapping & Micro-PSRs
Sub-decameter crater mapping and micro-PSR analysis in the lunar south polar region using LRO NAC imagery and QuickMap, with CSFD analysis via Craterstats and CraterTools to refine volatile preservation estimates.
Impact Simulation
iSALE-2D forward modeling of impact cratering, working through equations of state (Tillotson, ANEOS) to connect simulated crater morphology to fault-controlled deformation.
